1. Observe and protect
Note what you're seeing, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage where it's safe, and gather any relevant background on the home.
2. Evaluate the house and site
Look at the whole picture -- how the window will be installed, flashing details, sill condition, frame material, glazing package, trim, and sun exposure all factor in alongside the unit itself.
3. Define a written scope
Spell out preparation steps, what gets protected, materials used, access logistics, permits, testing, cleanup, finish restoration, exclusions, and how changes get priced.
4. Compare providers
Check credentials, then compare the logic and boundaries behind each bid -- not just which number is lowest.
5. Inspect closeout
Before calling it done, confirm testing was completed, cleanup happened, documentation was provided, warranties are on file, and you know what maintenance remains yours.
